Pekárna Strančice

The Strančice bakery tradition stretches back to the early part of the twentieth century when Antonin and Emilia Nenadál founded the bakery in 1923. The family continued to operate the bakery until the early 1950s, when the Czech government began to nationalize property, including the site. The bakery continued to operate until 1972, when it was closed, all of its equipment removed, and the building site reallocated to other purposes.
At the beginning of the 1990s, the grandson of the bakery's founder regained the bakery with his wife Jiřina, and after extensive renovation and acquisition of new equipment, brought the bakery back to life. They also expanded the facility to include a storefront that does not just provide the wares of the bakery, but also food, clothes, textiles and other household items.
The Strančice bakery now offers a wide assortment of sweet and normal bread, and most notably, traditional Czech wheat-rye bread produced using traditional fermentation technology and baked in a steam oven.
